Illustrator Image Trace/Paint Steps

(test on a line drawing image)

Prepare:

Open image with Illustrator

Select object (v)

Shift to keep aspect ratio

Fit to Artboard (shift O)

Select image (v)

Object > Image Trace > Make and expand

Group selection tool

Color:

Swatches > open swatch library

Select a set

Select color

Select shape/section

Add Gradient:

Double click to add new

Drag to place color

Modify
