Drawing: Pen & Ink Biological Illustrations
What is Illustration?
For the purpose of this drawing unit we will focus on illustration as a visual example serving to clarify or prove something.
Further more, biological illustration is the use of technical illustration to visually communicate the structure and specific details of biological subjects of study. This can be used to demonstrate anatomy, explain biological functions or interactions, direct medical procedures, distinguish species, and other applications.
Pen and Ink Illustration unit comes to us in 4 parts:

Texture in art: Actual vs. Implied
In illustration we focus on implied texture.
Implied texture in artwork contsains the illusion of actual textures. Like other implied formal elements it represents a material or object in the physical world. Implied texture is used to allow the viewer to enter into the scenario that the artist has created. It can also be used to give the viewer information about the object that is represented.
